Aberlour Casg Annamh Batch 1

This is the first batch of the new Aberlour Casg Annamh. I have always been a big fan of the Aberlour A'bunadh products. Big, massive, fruity sherrybombs. Unfortunately they often clock in at just above 60 % ABV, making them illegale to sell in Norway. I was therefore excited to hear that Aberlour was releasing a new product that would be sort of a A'bunadh junior.

The Aberlour Casg Annamh is matured in European oak sherry casks, American oak bourbon casks and “traditional oak” i.e. refill casks. The name "Casg Annamh" is Scots Gaelic for "rare cask". This is said to be the first of many future batches.

The Aberlour Casg Annamh was released at the end of July 2018. It sold at around GBP 60 in the UK. Hopefully we will see a few bottles in Norway and Sweden soon.

Nose: Oooh, I can like this. A perfectly balanced and laid back sherry nose. No bomb, like an A'bunadh, but all the right elements are there. Soft notes of dried fruits, figs and raisins in particular. Fresh honey bread and rich caramel. Mild notes of apples and ginger. Can a smell be sticky? I am starting to believe that can be the case.

Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Full-on sweetness and a fair bit of spices right off the bat. Light citrus notes.

Finish: Medium long finish. Very thick and rich all the way. Honey, caramel and dried fruits.

Comments: If you are a fan of the Aberlour A'bunadh you will certainly find this whisky to your liking. It will certainly be a very welcome backup in between the A'bunadh batches..
