Here is another old dram from independent bottler Douglas Laing. The Ardbeg 1991 23 YO Directors' Cut was distilled in March 1991, matured in a single hogshead (cask #DL10274), and bottled in April 2014. The total outturn was 114 bottles.

..and here’s my verdict:

Nose: Puffy clouds of chocolate peat. Vanilla and citrus. Tomato plant and dark chocolate. With time the peat is darker and more coffee-like.

Taste: Full bodied and then some. Still very peaty for its age. Chocolate and coffee flavored peat. Salt and black pepper. Sugary licorice.

Finish: Long finish. A mix of chocolate and sugary sweetness, light fruitiness (apples and citrus) and driftwood bonfire.

Comment: Rock solid! ‘nuff said.

Score 90/100
