The Ardbeg Drum - Committee Release was bottled 2018-11-20. It was matured in ex-bourbon casks and then finished in ex-rum casks from the Americas. See also my review of the ordinary release here.

Nose: Huh! I actually get smoky rum notes on the nose. Even get the mildest whiff of funk, which I love. Other than that it is rather shy, cool and distant. Milk chocolate, vanilla and mild citrus notes. With time it is a little briny. Tropical fruits. Grilled banana.

Taste: Full bodied and somewhat overwhelming. The peat is strong in this one, and it is accompanied by hardened peppery notes. Ashes and coal. Somewhat dry. Dry chocolate and cocoa nibs.

Finish: Medium long finish. After a while the peat, ashes and dry chocolate also allow mild notes of tropical fruits and citrus to surface. Eucalyptus, mint and some oakiness in the end.

Comment: Feels more raw and peaty than the regular release. For once I prefer the regular over the committee release.

Score 85/100
