Ardnamurchan AD/09.20:01
Ardnamurchan AD/09.20:01, 5 YO, 46.8 %
Finally we get the inaugural release from Ardnamurchan Distillery (owned by Adelphi). They started production in the Summer of 2014, and this release actually does contain some whisky from 2014.
The Ardnamurchan AD/09.20:01 is composed of both unpeated and peated whisky. The peated whisky is for the most part produced with malted barley that is peated to around 35 ppm. The resulting ppm (in the barley) for this release is thus around 18 ppm. The whisky has been matured in 65 % bourbon casks and 35 % sherry casks - 53 casks all in all. The total outturn of this limited release was 15978 bottles.
The Ardnamurchan AD/09.20:01 is largely sold out already, but there are still bottles to buy in Norway at NOK 880 (12443901).
Nose: Honey. Rich and deep. Autumnal feel. White pepper and a mild oakiness. Peppery, earthy, chocolate-y peat. Hints of apples and apple wax. With time I also find cool vanilla ice cream with bits of strawberries.
Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Honey with a dry-ish note. Salt and pepper. Earthy and deep peat notes. Apples and apple wax again.
Finish: Medium long finish. Earthy peat still - now mixed with soot, coal and dark dry chocolate. Orchard fruits in the background.
Comment: An impressive start. Kudos, Ardnamurchan!
