Ardnamurchan with Graeme MacKay
I attended an intimate Ardnamurchan tasting this evening, at the Dr. Jekyll's Pub in downtown Oslo. The host for the evening was Graeme MacKay, Sales Executive at Ardnamurchan.
The lineup was as follows:
Maclean’s Nose Blended Scotch, NAS, 46%
Ardnamurchan Single Malt, NAS, 46.8%
Ad Sauternes Cask Release, NAS, 50%
Ardnamurchan 10 YO, 50%
Ardnamurchan Cask Strength, NAS, 58.1%
The star of the show was of course the first ever widely available 10 year old from Ardnamurchan (they have done two single cask releases recently that are 10 YO).
This is an unpeated whisky. Mainly ex-bourbon casks and a little bit of ex-Paul Lanois casks. Again a very nice product, rich and complex with lots of fruity and waxy distillery character coming through. Keep your eyes peeled for a full review shortly.
The Sauternes Cask was the other brand new release of the evening. An eight year old, large batch one-off release. Six years in mainly 1st fill ex-bourbon, and a second maturation for 2.5 years in ex-Sauternes casks. Very nice! Look out for a full review shortly.
Ardnamurchan produce about 400.000 lpa annually, and currently have about 21.000 casks in their warehouses.
Slàinte!
