Arran 2004 10 YO Orkney Bere Barley
Arran 2004 10 YO Orkney Bere Barley, 56,2 %
Arran distillery is actually quite young. They distilled their first whisky in 1995. In a couple of weeks, on 16 March 2015, they will release their first 18 yo.
Well, today it is all about the Arran 10 YO Bere Barley, bottled at cask strength. The whisky was distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2014. It was matured in several bourbon barrels that gave 4890 bottles.
It will be available in Norway 6 March 2015 at NOK 865 (item number 2171101). It is not available in Sweden.
Nose (21/25): Very light and fresh. It smells like sparkling wine with a touch of ginger and lemon. The vanilla was very obvious. A hint of oak in the end.
Taste (23/25): Still very light and fresh. I found eucalyptus, vanilla and fudge. Very rich with a sparkling sensation. I just loved the taste.
Finish (21/25): A warm and long finish. Still sparkling, I think. But other than that the aftertaste differed from the taste. Here came salt, butter, nuts, raspberry candy and oak.
Balance (22/25): I find the whisky quite balanced although the finish is different from the taste. A fresh and rich bourbon matured whisky from Arran.
