This single malt from Texas distillery Balcones is, unusually for American single malt, matured in only 2nd fill casks. Here is what they say on the official product page:

Our Mirador is a “second fill barrel malt profile” whisky. This bottling is made up of whiskies ranging from under 2 years to almost 5 years in age but because all of the aging took place in “used casks” the oak profile comes across much softer than some of our whiskies that are only half as old.

The Balcones Mirador Texas Single Malt Whisky goes on sale in Norway on May 31 at NOK 1075 (13174401).

Nose: Red berries and vanilla straight off. White pepper and tropical fruits.

Taste: Full bodied. Black and white pepper, ginger, earthy cinnamon and vanilla.

Finish: Medium long finish. Much the same really. It’s good, but not a whole lot of development.

Comment: A solid Texan single malt.
