Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon

Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon, NAS, 46 %

balcones-texas-pot-still-bourbon.jpg

This is a straight bourbon whisky from Balcones Distillery in Texas, USA. Being a “straight bourbon” we know it must be at least 2 years old. It is also my understanding that if it is between 2 and 4 years old an age statement must also appear on the label. There is no such age statement on the front or back label of this product, hence I conclude it must be at least 4 years old.

** UPDATE: I’ve heard there might be a handwritten note with age statement on the back. I’d appreciate it if anyone could confirm or deny this **

You can check the official product page here.

The Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon will be released to the Norwegian market shortly, from what I hear.

Nose: Honey glazed apples. Warm and cozy. Toasted oak. With time also vanilla, corn sweetness, and cinnamon. Hints of sweet licorice and citrus.

Taste: Medium to full body. Peppery attack, followed by apples, simple syrup, marshmallows and tinned pears.

Finish: Medium long finish. White pepper, mellow caramel notes and vanilla ice cream. Honey with a touch of mint.

Comment: A very decent bourbon.

Score 85/100
