Ben Nevis 1999 18 YO

The whisky is released by Scottish independent bottler Deerstalker Whisky Company. Established in 1880, they have been going a few years. I believe they have only really gotten into single cask releases the last few years though.

This Ben Nevis 1999 18 YO was distilled 1999-01-18, matured in an ex-bourbon hogshead (cask# 25), and bottled on 2017-07-06. The total outturn was 315 bottles.

I have to comment on the color of this whisky. It is unusually dark for a bourbon hogshead. Might be a 1st fill cask.

The Ben Nevis 1999 18 YO comes on sale in Norway on November 15 at NOK 1567 (10556201).

Nose: Vanilla, and notes of green grass. Wait a minute! What's this? Cheese? Grated Parmesan cheese? Mold cheese? Very weird!

Taste: Medium body. Sweet, somewhat fruity. Vanilla. Even sweeter, weirdly sweet? Herbal.

Finish: Medium long finish. Polish, lacquer, mahogany and leather. Weird sweetness, and herbal notes.

Comments: Weird, weird, weird. Something amiss with this bottle or this bottling?
