This is the first of three whiskies in The Art Collection from independent bottler Bergslagens. The whiskies were produced at the now closed Swedish distillery Grythyttan. This whisky - the Bergslagens The Art Collection: Madeira Cask - was matured in a 225 litre Madeira cask (cask #249). The total outturn was 493 bottles (50 cl). The whisky is peated to 50 ppm.

Nose: Malty with a heavy but balanced peatiness. The peat is earthy in character - toasted oak, dark chocolate and dunnage warehouse. In the background I detect oakiness and a deep fruitiness.

Taste: Medium to full body. Earthy spices mixed with more earthy peatiness. Ashes, soot and freshly turned rich and dark soil.Baked apples and vanilla. Hints of dried fruits and sugary sweetness.

Finish: Medium long finish. More of the same, but it also takes on a cooler character, as well as hints of herbs, nuts and oak. The sweetness is ever richer towards the end.

Comment: Not bad, not bad at all. I could drink this, I could! And again!
