Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1, 5 YO, 59.2 %

Time to take a closer look at the 13. series of Octomore ‘uber peated whisky from Bruichladdich. This 13.1 expression clocks in at 137.3 ppm. It has been matured exclusively in 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, and produced using 100 % Scottish Concerto barley. Distilled in 2016 from the 2015 harvest.

The Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1 is still available in Norway at NOK 2105 (14901401).

Nose: Rich wood smoke and the warm and crispy crust of a sourdough bread straight out of the oven. Vanilla and black pepper. Worn leather and ancho chili. More creamy and rich by the minute. Lots of orchard fruits with time, and a whiff of ripe, juicy strawberries.

Taste: Super rich and massively peated. This is liquid smoke - and I mean that as a compliment. Islay on fire (heaven forbid!). Spiced honey - again pepper and ancho chili. Ripe orchard fruits.

Finish: Medium long finish. rier in character now. A bit more peppery as well, and way more green - tomato vine and green herbs. Dark with notes of leather, polish and sweet licorice.

Comment: As delightful as ever.
