Caol Ila 2010 6 YO Provenance, 46 %

Caol Ila 2010 6 YO ProvenanceToday I try the Caol Ila 2010 6 YO Provenance, an independent bottling from Douglas Laing. It was distilled in November 2010, matured in a refill hogshead (cask DL11639), and bottled in February 2017. The total outturn was 407 bottles.

The Caol Ila 2010 6 YO Provenance is released for sale in Norway on December 15 at NOK 1020 (8112201).

Nose: Green! Grass and mint. Medium sweet wood smoke. Vanilla and hints of salt. Salty chocolate biscuits. A touch of the maritime. Does improve quite well with time in the glass. The Talisker 2010 6 YO Provenance I tried the other day came across as much younger than this dram.

Taste: Medium to skinny body. Fruity - apples, pears and ginger flavored soda. A fair bit of ashes. Slightly medicinal - with a pinch of salt.

Finish: Medium long finish. Even more salt and maritime notes towards the end. In addition I now pick up caramel, nuts and vanilla. Softly peaty.

Comments: A very nice, young Caol Ila. Peaty whiskies often show their best side when they are a bit young and rough like this.

Score (85/100)
