Another very rare and very old bottling. The Clynelish 1972 30 YO The Dundeil Selection was released by Berry Bros & Rudd in 2002. This is a single cask release. The cask number is given as 14307, that’s all I know.

Nose: Chocolate, soot and cinnamon. Toasted oak and wax. Waxy apples in fact. It’s not just creamy it’s fatty. With time also a lighter sweetness in the form of marshmallows. Milk chocolate and gingerbread. Hints of green herbs. Assorted berries, including rowanberries - so a touch of bitterness. The vaguest hints of oakiness - a thin coating of dust.

Taste: Rich and full bodied. Definitely peaty. Peppery and sooty. Ripe fruits underneath the veil of smoke and spices. Once the smoke clears the waxy apples are back.

Finish: Very long finish. A touch greener now - cut grass and green herbs. Creamy chocolate notes. Marshmallows and barbecued pineapple.

Comment: I feel blissfully blessed and blessedly blissful!

Score 92/100
