A. D. Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon
A. D. Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon, 3 YO, 47.5 %
It's Friday, late October, and time for a warming dram as the temperature outside is creeping ever closer to the freezing point. Today I am reviewing my first ever whiskey from Laws Whisky House, a distillery located in Denver, Colorado. The whiskey in question is the A. D. Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon.
The whiskey is produced with the following mash bill: 60% Corn, 20% Colorado-grown wheat, 10% Colorado-grown rye, 10% Colorado-grown barley. It is then aged for a minimum of three years.
A bottle of A. D. Laws Four Grain Straight Bourbon will set you back around USD 60. It seems you have to visit the US to get your hands on a bottle though. No distribution in Europe yet, as far as I can see.
Nose: Warm and welcoming. Rich and full nose. Sun warmed oak, cinnamon, vanilla sticks, and pepper. Hints of perfume and floral notes in the background, but it is hardly noticeable. Powdered sugar, marshmallows and light leather notes. More fruity with time; tropical notes. Pineapple, coconut and apricots.
Taste: Warm and full-bodied. A bit more spicy now. The pepper and cinnamon is joined by vanilla and hints of nutmeg. Leather and a touch of perfume.
Finish: Medium long finish. Continues much as it started. A bit heavier of the sweetness now perhaps. Caramel and notes of maple syrup.
Comments: A very impressive dram. This goes straight to my list of favourite bourbons.
