Eiktyrne Adopted Malt MacHidden NAS, 44.4 %

This is a blended malt, consisting of at least one peated and one unpeated Scotch, which were matured in Scotland, then transferred to Norway where it received a finish for about a year in three fresh bourbon barrels.

The total outturn for this batch 1 was 1450 bottles (50 cl).

You can still buy the Eiktyrne Adopted Malt MacHidden NAS in Norway at NOK 699 (1372702).

Nose: Lovely balance between sweet wood smoke and a more fruity and malty character. Not all that easy to pick out specifics, and that might be down to the age, which I will assume is not all that high given it is a NAS, but then again you cannot be sure. Especially with a sneaky professor type like Jon Bertelsen. With time there is certainly a fair amount of vanilla from the bourbon barrels. It remains quite malty and with a wood smoke that I find very appealing.

Taste: Medium to slim body but very smooth (yeah, I know it is a tired expression, but not when used sparingly and on an expression that is not tired..). Vanilla, chocolate and again - malt and peat.

Finish: Medium long finish. Almost fizzy in character now. Continues as it started really. Milk chocolate, almost creamy. Vanilla. Dry wood smoke. Some citrus in the back.

Comment: No idea what went into this one, nor how old it is, but it is a darn fine effort. And I’ll drink to that. NAS my ass.

Score 88/100
