Fary Lochan 2014 - The Nordic Casks #1
Fary Lochan 2014 - The Nordic Casks #1, ~7 YO, 60.9 %
This is the Danish release from the new Nordic Whisky series from independent bottlers Berry Bros & Rudd.
The Fary Lochan 2014 - The Nordic Casks #1 was distilled in 2014, and bottled 2021. It has been fully matured in a hogshead (cask #06), and a total of 243 bottles were released.
One very special thing about this whisky is that it is nettle smoked. As far as I know Fary Lochan is the only distillery in the world to use nettle smoke when creating a smoked whisky.
You can buy this whisky only at GBP 150.
Nose: Smoked chocolate. Smoky chipotle chilli. Smoky paprika. Smoky tomato plant. Sounds like it is very smoke, but it is not. It is a tempered, multi-faceted smokiness. Hints of salt and white pepper. Orchard fruits in the background. With time mainly toasted oak, chocolate and goodness in a glass.
Taste: Very rich and quite a mouth full. This bottle comes with a warning and the warning is WAKE UP! You have to be present. Live in the now! This is exciting stuff. It’s genuinely unusual and in a good way. Spicy and hot up front. Pepper, chilli, ginger, aniseed. Dry, rich and juicy at the same time.
Finish: Quite long finish. Intense and insistent to the last. More spicy now, and a little green. Hints of citrus. Herbal, creamy, smoky chocolate, anyone?
Comment: Unique with an alluring smokiness!
