Glen Keith 1991 21 YO Jack Wiebers Whisky World, 49,6 %

Glen Keith 1991 21 YO Jack Wiebers Whisky WorldAs part of a blind tasting lined up from a friend, I tasted my very first Glen Keith. Blind tasting is a lot of fun! I love to not know what is in my glass.

Well, this particular Glen Keith is 21 YO, distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2012 by Jack Wiebers Whisky World. It is part of the bottling series Ocean liner. There was a total of 239 bottles.

I have only tasted two Glen Keiths and I do not know a lot about the distillery. But I do know that it was mothballed in 1999 and reopened in June 2013. The owner is Chivas Brothers.

Nose (23/25): Lovely! A very rich, full and complex nose! Fruity and aromatic at first. Then sweetness in the form of vanilla and caramel sauce. I do not often recognize almond notes in whisky, but this time it really stood out on the nose.

Taste (22/25): The complexity of the nose disappears, but actually I do not mind. The mouthfeel is smooth and nice. The palate is filled with caramel and salt. Quite light, like a summer breeze.

Finish (21/25): The caramel and salt lingers in the end, and is joined by licorice and spices.

Balance (22/25): Altogether the caramel was very dominating on the palate and makes the taste and finish a bit too sweet. Overall a very nice whisky with an outstanding nose.

Score (88/100)
