GlenAllachie 12 YO Virgin Spanish Oak Finish
GlenAllachie 12 YO Virgin Spanish Oak Finish, 48 %
I love the fact that GlenAllachie release these series where they play around with various virgin oak types (like this release) and various wine cask types etc. When the base whisky is also of such rock solid quality, it makes for some enjoyable explorations.
In the case of the GlenAllachie 12 YO Virgin Spanish Oak Finish at hand, it was initially matured in bourbon cask, then received a two year finish in virgin Spanish oak.
You might still find bottles of this release online at around GBP 65.
Nose: Warm and welcoming. Major bourbon vibes - and I don’t mean notes of the bourbon casks used - no, this dram smells like a high quality (no perfume) bourbon whiskey! With time a softly spicy milk chocolate. Vanilla and marshmallows. Some pepper and tropical fruits.
Taste: Medium body. Creamy vanilla and spiced honey. Still close to a well-balanced and mature bourbon in style. Peppery and deeply sweet.
Finish: Medium long finish. Continues much as it started. Spicy honey, rich vanilla.
Comment: Could have fooled me! Love it though.
Score: 88/100
