Here is another release in the Winter 2018 batch of the Glenfarclas The Family Casks series. The Glenfarclas 1993 The Family Casks (W18) was distilled in 1993, and bottled on 2018-12-06. It was matured in a 4th fill sherry butt. I just love the brutal honesty here! Most distilleries would have presented this as a refill sherry butt.

The Glenfarclas 1993 The Family Casks (W18) goes on sale June 4 in Norway at NOK 2870 (1969001).

Nose: This dram oozes, in the best possible way, refinement and noble age. Soft spices and assorted dried fruits. Raisins, dates and sultanas. It is a little restrained though - it is holding back somewhat. Hints of leather with time

Taste: Big, friendly giant. Lots of spices now, as well as heaps of fruitiness. We are talking a mix of fresh and dried fruits. Everything that hinted at on the nose are in full blossom here. So fresh and full of life.

Finish: Long finish. Remains fresh and bold throughout. Towards the end it takes on a green touch and the sweetness is toned down a little. Drying finish.

Comment: This is certainly not a dead old 4th fill butt. This butt kicks butt.
