I continue exploring with Glenfiddich. Today I present the second release in the Age of Discovery series. The Glenfiddich 19 YO Age of Discovery Bourbon Cask is the first ever Glenfiddich expression exclusively matured in American bourbon casks. That's quite interesting, I think.

The Great American Rivers once transported fine oak casks filled with American bourbon towards New Orleans. Bourbon casks could only be used once, their aromas and flavours released quickly, without being exhausted by long maturation.

Nose: Malty with notes of apples, pears and coconut oil. Some white pepper and oak. Hints of camphor. Grilled lemon. The pears become more dominant with time, and they are quality pears.

Taste: Medium body and almost buttery mouthfeel. There's some spiciness here, but not really a spicy whisky. White pepper, cardamom and ginger.

Finish: Medium long finish. Dark chocolate with orange marmalade filling. A bit of oak showing through now. Hints of grapefruit at the end - a touch of bitterness.

Comments: Enjoyable and refined.
