This is release number four in the Experimental Series from Glenfiddich. I have previously reviewed the IPA, the Project XX and the Winter Storm. Now it is time for the Glenfiddich Fire & Cane - Experimental Series 04.

The official blurb goes like this:

"Glenfiddich Fire & Cane is a bold fusion of smoky and sweet notes. By marrying peated whisky and malts matured in bourbon barrels, and then finishing in Latin rum casks, we created an exquisite whisky with campfire smokiness and toffee sweetness."

So, a rather unusual peated Glenfiddich, and with a three month long rum cask finish as well.

You can buy the Glenfiddich Fire & Cane - Experimental Series 04 in Norway at NOK 625 (10982101), and in the UK at around GBP 40.

Nose: Light and delicate on first approach. It needs a few minutes in the glass to open up. With time there is a light fruitiness, as well sweet wood smoke and ashes.Vanilla, toasted oak, malt and cool strawberry milkshake. It is cool rather than warm on the nose.

Taste: Medium body and sweetness. Mildly fruity. Chewy in character. Peppery ashes mixed with an earthy sweetness. Some oakiness. Malty.

Finish: Medium long finish. Far more spicy now - mixed peppers and cinnamon. There is more of a kick to the peat as well - wood smoke and earthiness. The sweetness comes across as heavier and deeper now. Towards the end there is a wave of mint, ginger and sweet licorice.

Comment: Suits its name well, as it is both fiery and sweet.

Score 85/100
