Glengoyne 10 YO
Glengoyne 10 YO, 40 %
Today I go back to more an affordable and available whisky. This is the entry level whisky in the core range from Glengoyne Distillery. Glengoyne is located in the Highland region, but right on the border to the Lowlands. In fact, the 'border' is said to pass right through the distillery area, with the warehouses across the road, on the Lowland side.
The Glengoyne 10 YO is matured exclusively in sherry casks; about 70 % of the casks used are refill sherry casks, 15 % 1st fill American Oak sherry casks and 15 % 1st fill European Oak sherry casks.
You can purchase the Glengoyne 10 YO in Norway at NOK 470 (4450401), and online in the UK at around 27 GBP. It is currently not available to buy in Sweden.
Nose (21/25): Fruity and light. It has a certain maltiness to it as well, giving it a nice body. Even if this is a 100 % sherry matured whisky, it is not what I would call a sherry bomb. It is balanced and soft.
Taste (20/25): Apples with a touch of honey. Soft maltiness here as well. The sherry notes are laid back and relaxed. Slightly oily mouthfeel.
Finish (21/25): The sweetness is slightly heavier now, turning into more caramel notes. The apples are now baked and caramelized. The honey is still present. Medium long finish.
Balance (21/25): A very nice entry level dram. A great introduction to both Glengoyne and sherry matured whiskies in general.
Score (83/100)
