It is not very often we see exclusive bottlings for Norway, Scandinavia or the Nordics. Maybe this is slowly starting to change? Recently we had the Highland Park Single Cask Chris Maile Edition exclusive to Norway, as well as Highland Park exclusives for Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Now we have the Glenlivet Coupar Angus, an exclusive to Scandinavia.
The Glenlivet Coupar Angus was released on May 6, 2016. It was matured for 15 years in a sherry butt (cask #9940 - yes, this is a single cask release), and bottled on 2015-12-02. The total outturn was 564 bottles. I know that 200 bottles went to Sweden, which would indicate a similar number of bottles went to Norway and Denmark.
The name is derived from the town Coupar Angus, between the Glenlivet valley (well, glen) and Perth. This was a busy trading post and crossroads, and much frequented by whisky smugglers.
A bottle of Glenlivet Coupar Angus will set you back NOK 1990 (5464201) in Norway, and SEK 1900 (4048501) in Sweden.
Nose: Vanilla and soft, soft spices, and beneath this a super fluffy and bouncy layer of dried fruits and fruity fruitiness. It is so - well - darn comforting, for lack of a better description. Lemon tea, ginger and caramel.
Taste: Oily and full-bodied. Honey, ginger, white pepper, and fruits galore. I find apples, pears, bananas, oranges and hints of other tropical fruits.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Caramel, apples, honey and ginger now. A bit nutty towards the end, soft oakiness. It sticks to the roof of my mouth, in a very good way. Salty caramel ice-cream covered with golden syrup.
Comments: A delightful dram. A bit pricy perhaps, but nevermind that when the dram itself is to be reviewed. Cheers!
