High Coast Doubles Rum Casks

High Coast Doubles Rum Casks, 9 YO, 50.9 %

The first in a series called “Doubles” from Swedish distillery High Coast. This High Coast Doubles Rum Casks has unsurprisingly been matured in ex-bourbon and ex-rum casks. Limited to 6179 bottles.

The rum casks are made from American white oak and have previously held Jamaican rum for a minimum of 10 years.

The High Coast Doubles Rum Casks is still available to buy in Sweden at SEK 884 (41263).

Nose: Sweetness shines here, but with complexity and restraint. Envision rum and honey cakes, laced with creamy vanilla. Grilled pineapple and ripe mangoes rest beside notes of toasted oak. As moments pass, malt subtly surfaces, joined by the contrasting duo of black and green pepper.

Taste: A lavish full-bodied affair that's rich and silky. The palate is greeted more by vibrant fruits than overt sweetness – think honey-glazed apples. Amid this fruity revelry, there are traces of soot and toasted oak, all sweetened by creamy caramel and spiced up with white pepper.

Finish: It lingers gracefully. There's a familiar chorus of sweetness and fruit, now accompanied by a darker, drier edge. It rounds off well with almonds, soft hints of malt, and a cooling camphor touch.

Comment: Cool Runnings, man!
