High Coast Silent Mills Collection 04 Box
High Coast Silent Mills Collection 04 Box, 6 YO, 51 %
We have now reached the fourth and last installment in the Silent Mills Collection from High Coast Distillery, Sweden. This fourth and final silent mill is Box itself, the old saw mill that High Coast initially took as their distillery name.
This is a heavily peated whisky, clocking in at a phenol level of 41 ppm. 75.6% of the whisky has been matured in ex-bourbon casks and the remaining 24.4% have for the most part been matured in ex-port wine casks.
This is a limited release of 6200 bottles, and it is available to buy in Sweden at SEK 799 (41027).
Nose: Not overwhelmingly peaty on the first whiff. It is deep, warm, sweet and smoky. An Autumn whisky on the nose. Wet leaves, dunnage warehouse, honey glazed apples. Earthy vanilla, sweet licorice and oranges on the grill.
Taste: Big, bold and very peaty on the palate. Hot, smoky, peppery and sweet ashes. Aniseed. Cut grass and again creamy vanilla. A little raw - rough edges - but not distractingly so.
Finish: Medium long finish. Smoky, dark chocolate ashes and soot. Chocolate aniseed coal, is that a thing? I think it must be. I’m tasting it right now. Apple, vanilla, ginger and earthy cinnamon. Hints og toasted oak in the end.
Comment: A fine and peaty affair, but not the best of the series.
