Highland Park 10 YO Viking Scars
Highland Park 10 YO Viking Scars, 40 %
So, we have a new entry level whisky in the Highland Park core range. The Highland Park 10 YO Viking Scars is matured in American and European oak, and all casks are sherry seasoned, as far as I know.
The Highland Park 10 YO Viking Scars is only available in select countries, and the UK appears to not be among the selected. Curiously the official website states that it is available at 43 % ABV in some countries. In Norway we have the 40 % ABV version.
You can own a bottle of the Highland Park 10 YO Viking Scars in Norway at NOK 450 (8178801), and I have to admit the price is fairly decent.
It appears to not yet be available in Sweden.
Nose: A bit shy on first approach. Mild heather smoke, honey, vanilla and toffee. Sun warmed peat fields, dark chocolate and hints of coffee.
Taste: Medium to thin mouthfeel. Spicy upfront. Pepper, fiery ginger and hot embers. Vanilla, oranges and honey.
Finish: Medium to short finish. Mainly pepper, caramel, honey and a touch of sweet smoke. A bit watery towards the end.
Comments: An OK entry level dram. The nose is true Highland Park, but the palate comes across as a bit lacking in color. Please up the ABV!
