Highland Park Valknut

Highland Park Valknut

This is the second release in the Viking Legend series, which started off with the Highland Park Valkyrie last year. It is a little peatier than the average Highland Park whisky, just like Valkyrie. Valknut was made using a small portion of Orkney-grown Tartan barley, and it has been matured predominantly in American oak sherry seasoned casks.

Valknut means ‘knot of those slain in battle’ and its symbol of three interlinked triangles appears on numerous artefacts from the Viking Age. The Highland Park Valknut again features artwork by Danish designer Jim Lyngvild.

The Highland Park Valknut will be available to buy in Noray starting January 11, 2019, at NOK 720 (10352501). It is already available to buy in Sweden at SEK 599 (4033801), and in the UK at around GBP 57.

Nose: Oaky dust, warm caramel, aniseed, heather honey and earthy wood smoke. Lots of vanilla and soft fruitiness. Homemade caramel pudding. Hints of mustard seeds. Warm, rich and comforting.

Taste: Very smooth, medium body and sweetness. White pepper and ginger up front. Then caramel, and heather smoke.

Finish: Medium long finish. On the dry side. Various notes of caramel and toffee make up the body of flavors together with a delicate smokiness.

Comments: A fine Viking dram.
