Jim Beam Rye
Jim Beam Rye, 4 YO, 40 %
Jim Beam Rye is a Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. Made with a mashbill (recipe) which has the minimum requirement of 51 % rye, any less and it could not legally be called a rye whiskey. It was then matured for four years.
The nick name for this whiskey is Beam Yellow Label, and it is the top-selling rye whiskey in the USA.
You can pick up a bottle of Jim Beam Rye in Norway at NOK 400 (item number 553301), and in Sweden at SEK 301 (item number 85208).
Nose (21/25): Mild spices (rye and pepper) and medium sweetness. It has a round and mellow nose. Smooth and a bit to nice perhaps? Warmer with more spices and honey after some time in the glass.
Taste (20/25): Spicy and oaky. A bit dry upfront before easing up a little. Ginger, pepper, oranges and burnt toast or wood.
Finish (22/25): Still spicy - nice rye character actually. A slight oaky bitterness or acidity. Pepper and honey. Oily and medium long finish. A really nice finish, I must say.
Balance (21/25): Very good value for money in my view, although I have tried better rye whiskeys.
Score (84/100)
