Jura Paps Beinn a'Chaolais Mountain of the Sound, 15 YO, 46 %

Jura Paps Beinn a'Chaolais Mountain of the Sound (Feis Ile 2009)

This whisky was released as one of three in a Paps of Jura Collection for the Feis Ile festival in 2009. The Paps of Jura are three mountains located on the western side of the island. The Jura Paps Beinn a'Chaolais Mountain of the Sound was released as limited edition of 1366 bottles, at 46 % ABV.

It has been finished in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks for 2 years.

Nose (22/25): My first impression that this is a creamy nose. It smells almost like fresh butter. There is also caramel, and some warm spices. Quite a bit of oak influence here, and not that much sweetness.

Taste (21/25): Spiced honey and cream. Oily, bordering on sticky, mouth feel. There is oakiness here, as on the nose. Hints of fresh fruit; apples and pears.

Finish (20/25): More oak now, and with it something sour or slightly bitter. It becomes quite dry towards the end. I also find oranges and orange peel.

Balance (20/25): An interesting, if a bit oaky, Jura expression. I rather liked the nose. Not sure I could detect a lot of wine notes here.

Score (83/100)
