Jura Prophecy
Jura Prophecy, NAS, 46 %
The Jura Prophecy is a heavily peated whisky, which is quite unusual for this distillery. The rest of the core range from Jura is either unpeated or very lightly peated. The Jura Prophecy has a phenolic level of 35 ppm. It has been matured in Limousine oak casks, in other words European (French) oak. The label says "Spicy Sea Spray".
The Jura Prophecy is available to buy in Norway at NOK 750 (item number 9085501), and in Sweden at SEK 651 (item number 85511).
Nose (22/25): Well rounded, and appealing nose. Fruity and quite peaty. There's smoke and dry ashes, together with mild spices.
Taste (21/25): Peaty, and it tends towards ashes on to taste just as it did on the nose. Quite dry. The spices are here, as advertised, in the form of cinnamon, mild pepper and some licorice. Caramel.
Finish (21/25): Warm, medium long, and peaty all the way. It stays dry, and the ashes are ever present. The finish is rather salty, so that must be the sea spray.
Balance (21/25): I like this. It is different from other Jura whiskies I have tried, and it would seem they should try their hand at more peated expressions.
Score (85/100)
