A few days back we saw the release of the first product from Kentucky Owl in Norway. The product in question is the Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon Whiskey. It is rather pricey, and they describe themselves as a super-premium Kentucky bourbon. Their products have been available for about five years, and of course they can trace their history back to way before prohibition.
They are sourcing all their whisky for now, but grand plans are under way to build a new distillery.
“In 2017, the brand was purchased by Stoli Group, which is building a $150 million distillery and bourbon park in Bardstown with designs by the world-renowed Shigeru Ban Architects.”

The Kentucky Owl Confiscated Straight Bourbon Whiskey was launched in April 2019, as the first widely available product from Kentucky Owl. All other products from them so far have been very limited.

Nose: This is definitely a quality bourbon. It comes across as well-aged and balanced. This is a dram that makes you sit up and pay attention. Corn sweetness, vanilla, toasted oak and some tropical fruits - sure. But there’s also a refined character with varied spices, well-worn leather, sun-warmed sand and .. strawberries and mustard seeds. A touch green as well. Intriguing in a good way. Went back again after a while and now I find the most endearing chocolate character on the nose. Yummy!
Taste: Rich and full-bodied. Not as sweet as I would have expected. It strikes a fine balance between sweetness, spices and fresh green notes. Caramel, leather, cinnamon, vanilla and fresh cut grass.
Finish: Medium to long finish. Chocolate mixed with fresh, green and cool mint just as it lands.
Comment: Complex and rewarding.
