Kilkerran Heavily Peated (batch 1)
Kilkerran Heavily Peated (batch 1), NAS, 59.3 %
This really is a heavily peated expression. The Kilkerran Heavily Peated (batch 1) is peated to 84 ppm. As far as I know this makes it way more peaty than Longrow (peated Springbank). Glengyle Distillery, who produces Kilkerran, has the same owner as Springbank distillery, and get their malt from Springbank. I guess this means they produced (or sourced) heavily peated malt especially for this product.
To produce this expression Glengyle Distillery vatted 55 % ex-Bourbon casks and 45 % ex-sherry casks.
This batch 1 is now sold out, but a batch 2 is already available out there, and I am sure there will be a batch 3 etc.
Nose: Oaky wood smoke at first. Vanilla and cool earthy notes. Potatoes straight from the dirt, and smoked sausages and bacon. Baked apples and barbecued lemons in the background.
Taste: Rich and full bodied. Sweet and oaky wood smoke just as on the nose. Salt and cinnamon. Dried fruits in the background now.
Finish: Medium long finish. Light and sweet notes of peaty vanilla ice-cream.
Comment: A delightful peaty dram. Young and feisty, just as it should be!
