Lagavulin 12 YO (Special Releases 2017)
Lagavulin 12 YO (Special Releases 2017), 56,5 %
This is one of the reasonably priced annual special releases from Diageo. The Lagavulin 12 YO (Special Releases 2017) is the 17th release in the series.
Not a whole lot of details are known about this whisky. It has been matured in American hogsheads. That's about all I know, except for the age, distillery and ABV. Still that is more than enough to enjoy a dram or two.
You can still buy the Lagavulin 12 YO (Special Releases 2017) in Norway at NOK 1100 (3406701).
Nose: Ooh, classic! Smoked sausages, barbecue on the beach, vanilla, freshly baked bread, and brine. A touch of iodine and camphor. Quite light on the nose, but still very distinct and smile inducing. Lighter and more pleasant by the minute.
Taste: Full-bodied, rich and very smooth. Much like the nose, which is appreciated. Added spiciness in the form of white pepper, sea salt and cinnamon sticks. A touch earthy - moist, black dirt (in a good way, a god way!). Quite peaty - ashes and wood smoke. Leather and soot.
Finish: Medium long finish. Dry-ish in character. A fine balancing act between dry notes of coffee, ashes, driftwood smoke, dark chocolate and barbecued meat on one side and spices in the form of smokiness, peppers and vanilla.
Comments: A very fine and complex dram indeed!
