Laggan Mill Cask #2772 Cooper's Choice, NAS, 53,5 %

Laggan Mill Cask #2772 Cooper's ChoiceThis is a mystery single malt, from an undisclosed Islay distillery. It has been matured in a butt (cask #2772), for an unknown number of years. It is a cask strength release, that we do know. In sum it is not a whole lot that we do know about this whisky.

Maybe the name of the whisky can give us some hints? On Islay there is a Laggan Farm, which is located quite near the Bowmore Distillery. It is located between Bowmore and Islay Airport. So maybe this is a Bowmore?

This whisky will be released in Norway on March 6, at a sales price of NOK 928 (item number 2125101).

Well, mystery dram, it is time you 'spoke' to us. Let's see what secrets you hide.

Nose (22/25): An appealing mix of wood smoke and the crust of newly baked artisan bread. Quite sweet and full. Given time it does reveal a certain mix of exotic fruits.

Taste (22/25): Ashes! Dry and sweet, fruity ashes! The dryness wears off quite quickly. It gets more fruity, but the ashes are ever present. After a few sips there is more spice coming through; pepper and ginger.

Finish (21/25): Dry again now, but mouth-watering. I know, one of life's many mysteries. Caramel, and watered-down fruit drops. Medium length.

Balance (22/25): A well-balanced and heart-warming dram. Having tasted this whisky now I am not so sure Bowmore is the best candidate. I am more inclined to think a young Lagavulin, but it is really hard to tell. No other candidates stand out for me, at least. What do you think?
