Ledaig 10 YO, 46,3 %

Ledaig 10 YOLedaig is the peated whisky produced at the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull. If you have not been to the Isle of Mull you should definitely put it on your Bucket List, it is a magical little village.

The Ledaig whiskies are made with malt which is peated to a level of 39 ppm phenols, comparable to many Islay whiskies.

You can purchase this whisky in Sweden at SEK 499 (item number 85390). A bit strange that this whisky is not available in Norway. I can only find a Ledaig NAS (although specified as having been matured for a minimum of 48 months) in Norway.

Nose (20/25): A nose with medium peat puffs. Quite light and sweet. The typical salty and mineral notes are quite pronounced. It is almost a bit flinty and slightly sour. I wonder if this is due to the water source, or something else. It is quite distinct for Ledaig (and to a lesser extent the unpeated Tobermory). Floral after a while in the glass.

Taste (19/25): Light and cool (slightly minty). Peaty - with dry smoke. Sugary.

Finish (19/25): Light. Slightly fruity and floral. The mineral notes from the nose are back. It is flinty, a bit metallic and sour.

Balance (19/25): The mineral notes dominate too much for me to fully enjoy this dram. I do think it is a clear improvement over the old 10 Yo which was bottled at 43 % ABV and was chill-filtered.

Score (77/100)
