Longrow Red 12 YO Fresh Pinot Noir Casks (2015)
Longrow Red 12 YO Fresh Pinot Noir Casks (2015), 52,9 %
Longrow, the peated whisky from Springbank Distillers, has an annual wine finish release. The latest release is the Longrow Red 12 YO Fresh Pinot Noir Casks (2015). I have previously reviewed the Longrow Red from 2013 and 2014.
The 2015 release is 12 years old, one year older than the previous two releases. It has been matured for 11 years in bourbon casks, before receiving a one year finish in fresh New Zealand Pinot Noir casks. It is released as a limited run of 9000 bottles.
You can buy the Longrow Red 12 YO Fresh Pinot Noir Casks (2015) in Sweden at SEK 998 (4040201). It is currently not available in Norway.
Nose (21/25): Lots of wine-y notes here! The Pinot Noir casks have made a very clear impression. Red berries and apples in abundance. A touch of rubber mix with the warm and rich peat. Sweet and sugary.
Taste (22/25): Rich mouthfeel. Sweet wine notes just as on the nose. Again lots of red berries. Licorice, vanilla, white sugar, a touch of salt, and rich peat.
Finish (22/25): Medium long finish. Mainly sweet wine notes and licorice towards the end.
Balance (21/25): It is fun to follow this series of releases, as they are quite different but at the same time have similarities. I found this release to be slightly more appealing than the previous two.
