This is rather unusual. A relatively new whisky (Naked Grouse was first launched in 2011) is relaunched as a different type of whisky. Naked Grouse was previously a blended Scotch whisky, but is now changed into a blended malt. The grain component is removed, and I would assume the composition of single malts is also adjusted. The Naked Grouse Blended Malt was released around one year ago.

Amongst the main components of the Naked Grouse Blended Malt we find Glenturret, Macallan and Highland Park. The age is not given, but we do know is that it has been matured in 1st fill and refill American and European oak casks, and finished in 1st fill Oloroso sherry butts for six months.

Also the Naked Grouse will now be a brand apart from Famous Grouse. With time more expressions of Naked Grouse, possibly also with age statements, will be released.

The Naked Grouse Blended Malt will be released in Norway on March 1 at NOK 412 (10733401). It is also available in Sweden at SEK 315 (46601), and in the UK at around GBP 26.

PS! Interestingly the old Naked Grouse Blended Whisky is still available in Norway at NOK 400 (378501), so make sure you pick up the correct bottle when you go shopping.

Nose: White pepper, cinnamon and hints of smoke. Very appealing nose, with delicate sherry influence. Dried fruits, honey and soft nuttiness.

Taste: Medium body and quite rich. Spicy up front, with white pepper and cinnamon. Dried fruits again - raisins and dates in particular. Mildly fruity with red apples.

Finish: Medium long finish. Caramel and honey flavoured chocolate ensure a sweet and comforting landing.

Comment: Avery positive surprise. This is a whisky well worth trying for all you single malt fans out there. An impressive blended malt.
