New Riff Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 4 YO, 50 %

New Riff Distilling opened their distillery in Newport, Kentucky in 2014. This product that I am reviewing today is distilled at their own distillery. In the early days they sourced their whiskey from MGP while their own distillate was aging. This is a high rye bourbon, with a mashbill containing 30 % rye.

Nose: Butterscotch, cinnamon and creamy vanilla. With time hints of tropical fruits. Pleasant and warm.

Taste: Medium to full body. The high rye content does come through here in the form of distinct, and highly appreciated, peppery notes. Orchard fruits and vanilla.

Finish: Medium long finish. More pepper, then a drier impression of toasted and dry oak.

Comment: A more than decent bourbon.
