Nordic Whisky #111 - Braunstein E:1
Braunstein E:1, 3 YO, 61,2 %
The Braunstein E:1 was the first ever single cask, cask strength Danish whisky to be released. This whisky was distilled on 2007-03-22 at the Braunstein distillery a short distance outside Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Braunstein E:1 was matured in a 225 litre ex-sherry Oloroso cask. The total outturn was 300 bottles all in all, when it was bottled in 2010.
This whisky initially sold at DKK 3 000 per 50 cl bottle. There are still a few bottles left at the distillery shop today, but you will now have to pay an astounding 15 000 DKK for a bottle!
Nose: Surprisingly light and fruity. There's a little bit of an alcohol sting here, but not much. I find apple, pineapple, grapes, powdered sugar and a whiff of warm spices.
Taste: Whoa, this whisky packs a punch! Fiery and powerful mouthfeel! Once I get my senses back I start detecting the finer notes here. There's a rush of spices upfront (pepper, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg).
Finish: Medium long finish. Lots of white sugar and massive amounts of cinnamon. It's like chewing on cinnamon powder, in a very good way mind you. It's a little creamy as well. Actually reminds me of taking a bit off of a cinnamon bun before it goes into the oven. Yum!
Comments: Amazing that this is a three year old whisky. Sure it is very youthful, but delightfully so!
