Mackmyra Moment Vintage, 10 YO, 48,6 %

Here is a brand new release from Swedish distillery Mackmyra. It was distilled in 2004, then matured for nine years in various casks, and then one year finish in new American oak casks. The other cask types used include Ukrainian wine casks and Tokaij wine casks. Master blender Angela D'Orazio does love to juggle a lot of different influences to get the whisky just the way she wants it.

The Mackmyra Moment Vintage was released for sale in Sweden on February 6, 2015. It sells at SEK 1197 (item number 40429). It is not available in Norway (yet).

Nose (23/25): Full and rich, with a very nice sweetness. Barley, malt, honey, and vanilla. I find it to be slightly floral, with a hint of leather lurking in the background. It develops very well in the glass, and with time I find mild caramel and almonds. A nose to admire, really.

Taste (22/25): A bit dry to taste. Caramel, spices, and herbs. There is a slightly 'green' character to it.

Finish (20/25): Still a bit dry. Caramel, mild spices and a slight fruitiness. Medium length.

Balance (22/25): Really love the nose on this dram. This is a very fine whisky. I would have wished for a richer and longer finish, but I cannot always have my way.
