This is the third release of the Octomore 10 YO. This is a vintage 2008 whisky, and it was bottled 2018-12-14. The peat level in the malt is reported at 167 ppm, and this release was limited to 12000 bottles.

The Octomore 10 YO Third Edition is the same vintage and same ppm as the Octomore 08.2 (see review), of course with an two added years of maturation. The types of casks used is completely different though

Here are the details on the casks used for the Octomore 10 YO Third Edition (from the official product page):

“Matured entirely on Islay for 10 years in Port, Cognac, ex-American whiskey and Virgin Oak casks.

Full term maturation in 1st fill Port pipes (37%), 1st fill Cognac casks (31%), 2nd fill ex American whiskey casks (20%).

With an additional parcel from 3 years first fill ex American, 2 years virgin oak, final 6 years in ex American whiskey casks (12%).”

This fine whisky is unfortunately sold out by now.

Nose: Soft and delicate. Fluffy clouds of tropical fruits, cotton candy and mild wood smoke. With time whiffs of a far away barbecue with smoked meat and toasted marshmallows.

Taste: Full bodied and rich. Candy store and fruit stall sweetness. White pepper, toasted oak, sugary soot, fizzy ginger, and almond paste.

Finish: Long finish. More refined and balanced sweet, smoky fruitiness. Smoked marzipan, sooty chocolate and toasted blood orange.

Comment: A dram of sweet nothings!
