Old Pulteney 12 YO
Old Pulteney 12 YO, 40 %
The Old Pulteney 12 YO has been around for years, but earlier this year it was relaunched in brand new packaging. My first impression of the packaging is that it is now a lot clearer, and it should stand out more on the shelf.
The liquid is the same as before, but it is now joined by a whole new setup of other core range whiskies; reviews coming up shortly.
The Old Pulteney 12 YO is matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks; mainly 2nd fill casks.
You can buy the Old Pulteney 12 YO in Norway at NOK 600 (5685401), in Sweden at SEK 349 (1046501), and in the UK at around GBP 32.
Nose: Vanilla first and foremost, with a maritime and briny touch to it. Fresh and cool. Mildly fruity, leaning towards citrus. Cosy nose. White pepper, malt and a whiff of warm sand after a while.
Taste: Medium body. Soft spices - white pepper, ginger and dry cinnamon. Again a bit salty. Certainly a fair bit of vanilla.
Finish: Medium to short finish. White pepper, mild caramel sauce, citrus and almonds.
Comments: A fine entry level whisky.
