Old Pulteney 15 YO
Old Pulteney 15 YO, 46 %
Old Pulteney is revamping their entire core range this year. New packaging, new labels and mostly new products. The old 17 YO is history, for instance. One of the brand new products is this Old Pulteney 15 YO.
The Old Pulteney 15 YO was released in August and will remain a UK exclusive until it is launched internationally (including Norway) in January 2019. It has been matured in 1st fill ex-bourbon casks, and then finished in 1st fill Oloroso casks. You can find more info on the official website here.
For now you can buy the Old Pulteney in the UK at around GBP 68.
Nose: Vanilla, white sugar, icing sugar, coconut oil, and a pinch of salt. Very clean and crisp. It is mainly the bourbon casks that influence the nose at first. Then, with time, the sherry casks show their influence - dried fruits and a darker sweetness slowly appear. Chocolate, nuts and honey. A really, really nice development in the glass. Reminds me of the Old Pulteney 17 YO in this respect. Surprisingly complex and rich.
Taste: Medium body and sweetness, and a very smooth mouthfeel. Lots of spices (pepper, ginger, cinnamon, chili) mixed with delicious honey wash over the tongue from the first sip. It does not develop as much on the palate as on the nose, but it is still a very pleasant experience. Apples and a touch of sea salt.
Finish: Medium long finish. Remains spicy all the way. Also salty chocolate. I love salty chocolate!
Comments: This could possibly be my new go to Old Pulteney, as the 17 YO is sadly discontinued.
