The aquavit brand Gammel Opland celebrates their 150 year anniversary with this release. It is a 12 YO aquavit, distilled at Hasle in 2009. It was initially matured for five years in ex-sherry casks (the first two years at Hasle). Then the liquid was moved to an single ex-Maderira cask for a further 7 years of maturation.

You can buy the Opland Bøkkerens Reserve in Norway at NOK 6000 (14768601), starting this coming Thursday.

Nose: Caraway, caramel and candy. More and more caraway with time.

Taste: full bodied. Rich and sweet. The caraway is definitely present here as well, but not overwhelmingly so. More fruity and sugary sweet sip by sip. Vanilla and fruity hard candy.

Finish: Medium to long finish. Now also sweet licorice. Lots of sweet licorice.

Comment: Well, it’s an old aquavit, and it is rather decent, but still..
