There is more to Indian whisky than Amrut. We have now tasted another whisky from Paul John (see earlier review). This whisky is a single cask expression called Paul John Cask #P1-163. It is a young, no age statement whisky, matured in a bourbon cask.

Paul John whisky is not available in Norway (yet!), but you can purchase this in Sweden as you have an importer in Whiskytaste Sweden. The price for Paul John Cask #P1-163 is SEK 901 (item number 84160).

Nose: Delicate oaky spices tempered by just as delicate vanilla bourbon notes, pickled fruits and lovely maltiness. Wow! This is a delicate and refined nose. After another 30 minutes in the glass it becomes even more delicate, the fluffiest, most delectable vanilla desserts, and delicious vanilla ice cream!

Taste: Delivers exactly what the nose advertised! Honest advertising - a true rarity in this day and age. Oaky spices (pepper, ginger, cinnamon), honey and vanilla sweetness, accompanied by creamy fruitiness.

Finish: The spices are tempered, warming me to the core. Drier now, more oak influence, but still very nice. Warm and slightly burnt caramel towards the end.

Balance: To paraphrase a horrible 'butter' advert from the US; I can't believe it's not an old whisky!
