One more from Elixir Distillers, the independent bottler behind the brands Port Askaig, Single Malt of Scotland and Elements of Islay, to name but a few. This time I’m looking closer at the Port Askaig 8 YO.

There is absolutely no details on this bottling online, except for the fact that it is a single malt from a distillery on Islay. Chances are it will be sourced from either Caol Ila, Lagavulin, Laphroaig or Bunnahabhain. But who knows..

The Port Askaig 8 YO is on sale in Norway starting Thursday this week at NOK 735 (1387701). It is also available in the UK at around GBP 40.

Nose: Dry Islay smoke mixed with notes of chocolate, brine and old bandages. Hints of citrus in the back.

Taste: Medium to light body. Peat and smoke from a driftwood bonfire on the beach. Vanilla, caramel, tired oak and salt.

Finish: Medium long finish - at a stretch. Remains dry all the way. A bit of pepper and citrus in the end.

Comment: Quite OK, but I do think the Port Askaig 100 Proof has more of an appeal.

Score 84/100
