Roe & Co 2009 9 YO Single Grain

Roe & Co 2009 9 YO Single Grain, 57.4 %

This is a distillery exclusive launched when Roe & Co opened their distillery on the 20th of June 2019, in the heart of Dublin, Ireland. As their core expression is a blend of grain and malt, they released a single cask of Grain and a single cask of Malt; this being the grain expression.

This single grain whiskey has been matured in a 1st fill ex-bourbon cask, and a total of 250 bottles were released, with a price tag of 85 euro. The grain used in the production of this whiskey was maize / corn.

Since Roe & Co is still too young to have produced this whiskey themselves, it has been carefully sourced from elsewhere.. I wonder where though? :-)

Nose: Rich and fruity in style. Ripe apples and crushed almonds. Mildly spicy. With time marshmallows and creamy vanilla.

Taste: Rich and fruity again. Full bodied with lots of strawberries and orchard fruits up front. Then a flash of mild but insistent spices, before it dries up and I get green herbs.

Finish: Medium long finish. It remains rather fruity and somewhat dry in character - yet it is creamy and rich at the same time. Herbal and green in the end. Then as it dies off I get these lovely notes of Seville oranges.

Comment: A truly delightful dram! Very drinkable; the alcohol is very well integrated.

Score 90/100

PS! The companion single malt was distilled in 2008, matured in refill ex-bourbon cask for 10 years with a similar outturn of approximately 250 bottles retailing at 115 euro.
