The Lowland distillery Rosebank was mothballed by United Distillers (today Diageo) back in 1993. In October 2017 Ian Macleod Distillers (owners of Glengoyne and Tamdhu distilleries) acquired the Rosebank whisky trademark and remaining stock from Diageo. Plans are now well underway to restart Rosebank Distillery at the original site in the old style. Production is expected to start some time in 2022.

While we wait they have release this unique old Rosebank in a limited run of 4350 bottles. It has been matured in refill sherry butts and refill bourbon hogsheads. It is a triple distilled whisky. See the official product page for more details.

The retail sales price in the UK is GBP 1600, and this is one of tyhe rare instances where a Scotch whisky is considerably cheaper to buy in Norway than in the UK (althrough it is in no way cheap). The Rosebank 1990 30 YO Release One is available to buy in Norway at NOK 16000 (which equals approximately GBP 1360) (12434001).

Nose: A dusty old attic, with crates of ripe apples and pears. A sprinkling of icing sugar. Honey and malt flavored hard candy. With time a mild oakiness, vanilla, coconut, pineapple and milk chocolate. It just keeps on keepin' on. I could nose this all night. Softly floral and malty.

Taste: Rich, sweet, and with lovely concentration. Ripe and juicy apples and pears again. Icing sugar. Ginger and cinnamon. Assorted dried fruits and tropical fruits. Milk chocolate.

Finish: Long finish. White pepper and nutmeg added to the mix now. Still fruity and mild. More florral in the end.

Comment: Such a joy! Light and aromatic.
