Shackleton
Shackleton, NAS, 40 %
In April this year, Whyte & Mackay launched the blended Scotch malt whisky Shackleton, inspired by charismatic British explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, who led the first expedition to the South Polar Plateau. This is sort of a continuation of the previous, more exclusive Shackleton releases (see review).
More info on this release can be found here.
The new Shackleton blended malt is a Travel Retail exclusive, and sells at about GBP 35-40.
Nose: A very soft, shy, and non-aggressive nose. I find mainly banana, milk chocolate and caramel. There's also a whiff of smoke?
Taste: Medium body. At first I find it mild and mellow on the palate, then a bit more spicy. Peppery, with hints of ashes. It is relatively fruity, with apples and bananas. Demerara sugar and hints of dried fruit.
Finish: Short finish. A bit watery, and toned down.
Comments: A pleasant enough dram, if a bit simple. I think I would recommend this with ice, on the terrace in summer.
