Shelter Point Smoke Point - Batch 1, 5 YO, 55 %

This Canadian whisky from Shelter Point was made using malted and unmalted barley.

Matured for 5 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks and then finished for 8 months in ex-Laphroaig quarter casks. Limited to 1044 bottles. This is batch 1, released in 2019.

Nose: Green apples, green pears and wet leaves. Wood smoke and hints of barbecued meat. Sweet maltiness.

Taste: Big and bold - full bodied and full flavored! Rather fruity up front, mixed with tempered spices and peppery soot.

Finish: Medium long finish. More peppery now - even some chili. The soot has morphed into hot ashes. Green notes of herbs and cut grass (on fire). Chewing gum in the end.

Comment: Another exciting release from Shelter Point.
